PLAINS TENNIS.

BIG MATCH ARRANGED. VISIT BY AUCKLAND TEAM. Tennis on the Hauraki Plains, will get a big boost along on Saturday, March 6, when an Auckland team will visit Ngatea to play an inter-associa-tion match. With the assurance of suitable courts .the Plains Tennis Association suggested such an arrangement to the Auckland Lawn Tennis, Association which has replied suggesting Ma,rch 6' as a da.te on which a't|eam of fo(ur men and four ladies could be sent to Ngatea. All these players could play singles, doubles, and mixed but it was not thought possible for .them to stay for more than one day. ’ The match will be of great benefit to- Plains players, as the games; against strangers holding a known place in bigger— tennis will afford them an opportunity of gauging their own capabilities and learning the finer points of the game. Competition for places in the Plains team will, be keen, as many players are progressing rapidly and promise to tax the probable players to their utmost. The team will, be selected about the end of this month, but it has not yet been decided whether four men and four ladies alone will be matched against the visitors or whether more players will be given a game. Possibly the association will decide at its, next meeting to have eight men selected, the four additional -to play in ’the combined doubles. By the time the team is to be selecetd the championship and handicap tournaments, will, be well under way, so the form shown c'ap be taken into consideration. The match should prove an attraction to all tennis- players, and arrangements are being made to cater for a big number of visitors. The Ngatea club ha,s agreed to conduct a buffet at the courts, and to arrange a. dance in the evening should the Auckland players remain over night.
