LATE CR. P. CORBETT.
FUNERAL AT WAIHI.
REPRESENTATIVE OF DISTRICT.
The remains, of the late Councillor Percy Corbett, member for the Wairi Riding on the Ohinemuri County Council, were laid to rest at the Waihi Cemetery yesterday. The cortege was a lengthy one, and included in the large number who attended the ceremony were the chairman of the Ohinemuri County Council, (Mr W. F. Johnstone), councillors, and staff; and the Mayor of Waihi (Mr W. M. Wallnutt), and the councillors and staff. The last sad rites at the graveride were performed by the Rev. R. Barnett. The pall-bearers were friends of the deceased at Waitekauri and Waihi Plains. Born at Waitekauri, the Mr Corbett, on leaving school, was, farming for his father at Waitekauri for some years. Forsaking the land, deceased entered .the employment bf the Waihi Gold Mining Co., as, a tally clerk, filling that position for a long period. When the Waihi Plains were thrown open for settlement by the Government some ten years' ago he drew a section of 154 acres in the ballot, and this area he was farming at the time of his untimely demise. In his younger days the late Mr Corbett was, an athlete of no mean ability, and was a prominent Rugby footballer, having played for the Waikinb. club for many years. t
