PAEROA CROQUET CLUB.
GATHERING OF MEMBERS. MRS. W. J. BYRNE FAREWELLED. w" After being a member of the Paeroa Croquet Club for over seven years, during part of which time she was secretary, Mrs W. J. Byrne has resigned owing to leaving the district. On "Wednesday afternoon the club members assembled to farewell their departing guest. Owing to the unpropitous weather the function was held in the Parish Hall, .the afternoon being spent- in playing bridge. After a dainty afternoon tea had been partaken of the president (Mrs G. S. Taiboys), on behalf of the club, presented Mrs Byrne with a Doulton fruit bowl. In making the presentation Mrs Taiboys referred to .the good work-done by their guest, especially during her term as club secretary. The president assured Mrs Byrne that the members were very sorry to Ipse such a good friend and ' thorough sport, and concluded by wishing her good health, happiness, and prosperity in her new sphere. Mrs Byrne feelingly responded, thanking the members for their handsome gift and the president for her kind words. She said that she would ■always look back with pleasure on the many, happy days and good friends with whom she had been associated on the croquet lawn. The singing of “For she’s a jolly good fellow” and “Auld Lang Syne” concluded the happy little function.
