COURT RETURNS.
QUARTER ENDED DECEMBER 31.
SLIGHT INCREASE IN MINING.
The returns of civil and criminal business dealt with at the Courthouse, Paeroa, for the quarter ended December 31, show that there has been a slight decrease in the volume of business.
A total of 26 criminal, charges were dealt with, ,2'5 of which'were against male offenders. There were 6'5 civil summonses issued, the total amount s,ued for being £Bl2 19s 4d. Of the civil cases 25 were heard in Court, the amount sued for being £382 'Bu»' Id. of which sum £379 3s Id was recovered. The amount collected in civil court fees was £62 Is 6d ; in criminal fees, £l3 ; criminal fines, £46 15s. During the quarter there were seven judgment summonses issued and three distress warrants. WARDEN’S COURT. The returns for the local Warden’s, Court show a slight increase oji the previous quarter. The court fees at 2s an application amounted to £2 4s. Nineteen miner’s rights were issued during the quarter, compared with 9 for the previous quarter, and 25 miscellaneous applications were lodged, of which 18 were granted. Ten mining licenses were applied for and granted, compared with six last quarter.
