OHINEMURI JOCKEY CLUB

PROGRAMME FOR THIS YEAR. LARGE INCREASE IN STAKES. The Jubilee (50 years.) meeting of the Ohinemuri Jockey Club will be held at Paeroa Racecourse on Saturday and Wednesday, March 13 and 17. An excellent programme has been drawn up, and the meeting should be a most successful one from every point of view*.

As, is usual, the Ohinemuri Cup will be the principal event to be run on the first day. It will be run over a mile and a quarter, and has a stake of 700 sovs., including a gold cup valued at 100 sovp. This trophy has been specially imported, and is now on vio.w at the South Seas, Exhibition. This race last year was worth 500 sovs. Next in importance on the opening day is the Waihi Handicap of 300 Bovs,, six furlongs, while the other events arc : Handicap Hurdles of 200 sovs., one mile and a half; Karangahake Handicap of 200 sovs., Cor two-year-olds, five furlongs; Novice Handicap of 150 bovs, five furlongs,; Koinata Handicap of 200 sovs., six furlongs ; Hauraki Plains Steeplechase of 200 sovs., about two miles and a half: Netherton Welter Handicap of 250 sovs., one mile. On the seepnd day the events are : Second Handicap Hurdles of 200 povs., one mile and three-quarters; Hikutaia Handicap of 200 r,ovs., seven furlongs ; Waitekauri Handicap of 200 sovs., six furlongs ; Paeroa Handicap of 400 sovs, one mile ; Miners’ Hack Handicap of 150 sovs., six furlongs ; St. Patrick's Handicap of 300 sovs., six furlongs; Autumn Steeplechase of 2'50 sovs, about three miles ; Waikino Welter Handicap of 200 sovs., one mile.

The amount to be paid in stakes' totals £4lOO, including the Jubilee Gold Cup valued at £lOO. This sum represents an increase of £5OO on the total stakes for the two d.ays. last year.

Nominations close with the secretary, Mr H. Poland, Paeroa, at 8 p.m. on Friday, February 19, or with Messrs Bioinfield and Co., Auckland, fit the same hour.
