BUS OVERTURNS.
ACCIDENT NEAR TARARiiKI CBEEV
PASSENGERS ESCAPE INJURY.
Shortly after 7 o’clock last evening a large motor-bus, owned by Mr Godkin, Te Aroha, was returning from Wai hi Beach when it overturned at the foot of the hill just after crossing the bridge spanning Tarariki Creek on .the Paeroa-Waihi main road.
It appears that after beginning the ascent of the hiJl the driver found it necessary to change into, lower gear. This was .attempted, but the change was not instantaneous, with the result that the buw began to move backwards’ down fhe hill, gathering speed as It. went.- Unfortninatcly the brakes refused to act. with the result that the conveyance upset, on its side on reaching the foot of the hill. 'l’bo Paeroa troop of Boy Scouts, who are eneninpcd near the site of the inlshnp, were quickly on. the scone, equipped with llrn.t-aid appliances. There wore n number of passengers on the linn, lint fortunately they were able to make their exit through a, window as, the bus lay on its side. No one was injured, other than receiving a shaking and suffering from shock. The scouts did good work, and with their assistance the bus was. righted and was able to proceed on its way with the passengers to Te Aroha.
