“CAPPY RICKS.”
LAST NIGHT’S ENTERTAINMENT.
A DELIGHTFUL COMEDY. There was only a moderate number present at the Gaiety Theatre, Paeroa, last night to witnesp the J. C. Williamson, Co., production of “Cappy Ricks,” by Peter B. Kyne, in a tffieeact comedy. The principal, rote, tha,t of Cappy Ricks, was taken by Ward Lyons, who proved himself to be an inimitable and clever character actor. The supporting artists, were also a talented company, and the play was truly billed as “a, comedy of a million laughs." Acts one and three showed Cappy Ricks’ offices on the San Francisco waterfront, while act two displayed Cappy’s home, "Sea Look,’ overlooking Golden Gate. ~ Throughout the whole of the three acts, the interest of .the audience was well maintained, and the spontaneous laughter which greeted the clean, wholesome comedy with which the play abounds was sufficient recompense to the artists for their clever characterisation of the different partfa'. Ward Lyons, as the irate shipping magnate, and Herbert Stallard as Matt. Peasley, the young man who in the end earns the approbation of “Cappy” for his “go-and-get-there” methods, gave, faithful delineations of the principal characters .to the evident enjoyment of the audience, while the supporting artists each gave a performance that materially .assisted towards the success of the play. The orchestral items between tlie acts were rendered by four members, of a Paeroa orchestra, and were much enjoyed by patrons.
