DROWNING FATALITY.
MAORI CHILD THE VICTIM.
ACCIDENT AT WAITOKE.
Rangi Tumata, a Maori girl five years of age, daughter of Wartau Motu, a full-blooded native, and a resident of Waitoke, diet with a fatal accident on New Year’s Eve. The little girl was playing by .the side of a pool with another Maori child, al hoy named Moti Watane, aged seven, when she slipped ari'd fell into the water. The boy, in attempting to rescue his playmate, also, slipped into .the water. He then became alarmed and ran for assistance. / The child’s mother immediately went to the scene of the accident and recovered the body, life being by then' extinct. Unfortunately no adult witnessed the accident, nor was there anyone td attempt respiratory methods. Deceased’s father was away working, about two miles distant.
At the inquest a verdict of accidental drowning was returned.
