The Eiffel Tower is threatened with destruction by rust, which is defying constant repaintings. Expetrs are searching tor a,n effective coating.
The Eiffel Tower was completed in 1889 by Alexandre Gustave Eiffel, the famous French engineer. It is in the Champ de Mars and is 984 ft high. The bas,e is a square of 112yds, from each corner of which rise the four , curving supports of the interlaced ironwork. At 590 ft they coalesce into a single shaft. It belongs to the municipality, and is used for meteorological observ.aitioeis and as a wireless station. The tower had its uses in the Great War, and it was a bearing for German artillerists, who hoped to shell Paris. Eiffel in 1893 was condemned to imprisonment and fined heavily in connection with the Panama scandals.
