LOCAL AND GENERAL.

A booklet giving particulars of the train arrangements in the North Ilsland druing the Christmas, and New Year holiday period is now available at the local railway, station, and will be supplied free to bona fide travellers or intending travellers.

The Christmas, Festival will be marked with special services at St. Paul’s Church. There will be two celebrations of the Blessed Sacrament, the first at 8 a.m. and the otner —a sung - Eucharist —at 11 a.m. If any communicants are unable to fulfil, their Christmas duty on that day they will have a further opportunity on Sunday, when there will be a- celebration of the Blessed Sacrament at 8 a.m. On Christmas evening at half past seven there will' be a, special musical service, at which the choir will sing the anthem "O Zion that bringest good tidings” and a. number of carols, and; the Auckland tenor, Mr Harold J. Hill., will sing Knapp’*' beautiful air "Open the gates of the Temple.” '■ .

It has been arranged by the officebearers of the local Presbyterian and Methodist Churches that on the next two Sundays the services shall be combined. The morning services ivill be held in the Presbyterian Church, Macky Street, and the evening services in the Methodist Church, Normanby Road. The Rev. A. M. Costain will be the preacher at all services.*
