FLOODS IN GREECE.
ANCIENT TOMBS UNCOVERED, FIVE MUMMIES. DISCLOSED. ATHENS, Nov. 25. v Heavy loss of life is ' feared by floods, which have aljsp. unearthed 30 ancient tombs containing gold ornaments and vases, and five mummies. Archaeologists' attach the /Utmost '• importance to the find.. Experts.have not yet ascertained the epoch to z which the tombs belong. • MANY PEOPLE DROWNED, HOUSES FALL TO PIECES. STREETS LIKE VENICE., ATHENS, Nov. 25. Numerous deaths.'have been caused by floods due to sudden torrential rain, which transformed the avenues of Athens into canals, making the city resemble Venice, with turbulent floods of -yellow water rushing down the . streets. ' ' ( : ■ ' ' V Trees were, uprooted, bridges wash- ■ ed .away, and vehicles swept into the gutters. A number of houses, fell to pieces in an encampment where refugees were sheltering on the out’s.kirts of the city, the inmates being ■swept away by the swift current and drowned. • Some. girls were drowned in the middle .of Athens, numbeijs of spectators being powerless to assist them* .
