TE AROHA SHOW.

RAIN MARS PEOPLE’S DAY.

RECORD ENTRIES OF-STOCK.

The officials and promoters of The Thames Valley Agricultural, Pastoral, and Horticultural Society have every reason to feel gratified with their 1925 annual show, which was held on the society’s grounds .at Herriesville, Te Aroha, on Tuesday and Wednesday. Although heavy showers of rain somewhat marred the proceedings on People’s Day, and no doubt .was a deciding factor in preventing a large number of people from attending, by early afternoon there was a large crowd -present, and despite the elements they entered heartily into the spirit of-the proceedings. Credit is due to the secretary, Mr H. Lewis, and the officials and stewards for the smooth working of the arrangements. The events were got off promtply to time, and efficiency was the keynote of the organisation. The entries' received in the cattle classes constituted a record ifor the association, and the to.tal entries received in all classes, showed an increase of just bn 200 on the 1924 show. At the request, of the president, Mr G. Stewart, Mr A. M. Samuel, officially opened the Show in thd unavoidable absence in Wellington of Mr C. E. Macmillan. In his opening remarks Mr Samuel' said that it was his first official duty as a member of Parliament, and he wished to thank the association for the honour it had conferred on him. He regretted that Mr Macmillan was unable to be present. Continuing? Mr Samuel said he wished to congratulate the exhibitors on the splendid'; quality of the stock. In his opinion the Jersey and Friesian cable he had seen that day were equal to those .to be seen at any show in the Dominion. In conversation with a well-known breeder and judge that morning he had heard the judge express the opinion .that only on one other occasion had he seen better Jersey cattle exhibited in the Dominion, and that was a,t Stratford, Taranaki. (Applause.) After referring eulogistically to the splendid work done and the enthusiasm' of the association’s officials, Mr Samuel paid special tribute to the lady workers, and said, that, in his., opinion, a large measure of the success and renown of the association was'due to the whole-hearted support and co-operation ladies of the district. '(Applause.) After briefly referring to the enormous amount of good a live A. and.P. Association could do in ar district, Mr Samuel s,aid that for a show the size of the Te Aroha one the prizes offered were second to none in the Dominion, and, the cups and other trophies provided for the competitions were worth coming a long way to win. He congratulated the association on the result 'of its efforts, and wished it long life, prosperity, and continued success. He then declared the Show officially open to 1 the - accompaniment of hearty applause.
