BOROUGH WORKS.
REPORTS SUBMITTED.
The following statements were presented at the Paeroa Borough Council meeting on Thunsday evening:— WORKS COMMITTEE’S REPORT.
‘•During the past month the staff has been engaged on general maintenance work, including road and footpath repairs, 27 cubic yards of metal, having been used. The laying of the 2in water pipes in Thames Road from opposite the racecourse to the borough boundary was .also undertaken.
“Tenders were called for cleaning Junction Road drain, and that of W. Denton at 7s per chain was accepted.
“The half-yearly expenditure return indicates that a sum of £1025 has been spent in general maintenance during the six months, leaving about £7OO for similar purposes during the balance of the year. It will be necessary to exercise caution in authorising future work under this “The decking on the main traffic bridge is in a serious condition, and we ask for authority to renew the longitudinal decking if necessary at an estimated cost of approximately £lOO. “We recommend that the lading of water mains be pushed on as fast as other essential work will permit, in order that s.treet improvement work may be undertaken as soon as the weather isi suitable.” DOMAIN REPORT. The superintendent reported : — “In my last report I mentioned the fact that I was pruning trees. I did not get as much done as I anticipated owing mainly to ,the bad weather, and a considerable amount of this work will have to be left until next year.
“The season is now almost On hand for the opening of the greens, and my time for the last twot or three weeks, has been occupied on the preparation of the greens for their respective openings.
. ‘‘As regards the tennis courts, I do not know whether it would be worth my while marking them or not, as they are in a bad condition. I have trimmed the edges and cut the grass surrounding the courts. ‘‘When the. tarring and sanding of the paths is completed I thik I will be able to make improvements in the general surroundings: of the domain.” Appended was a statement showing time spent on various parts of the domain for the year ending September 30, 1925. On general work 1295 hours were spent, 608% hours on the bowling section, 245% on croquet, and 18 hours on Tennis.
FINANCE COMMITTEE’S REPORT. “Your committee begs to report that ‘ during the month the revenue was £442 16s 3d and expenditure £748 2s 3d, including .the accounts recommended for payment. The balance in the District Fund account after meeting the accounts presented for payment to-night will show a debit of £371 Os 6d. There are amounts totalling £1271 8s advanced by this account to the various loan accounts, so that it has an actual credit of £9OO 7s 6d. . “The balances -in the various loan accounts are as follows: Street Improvements Loan account, debit, £3429 6s ; 4d; Sewerage Loan account, debit, £5744 8s 9d; Domain Improvements Loan account, credit, £224 3s lOd; Water Improvements Loan account, credit, £589 18s 9d. “Rate and water charges are coming in slowly, and we recommend that water consumers be notified that unless water charges are paid before November 14 the supply will be cut off, and that the town clerk be authorised to carry out the terms cf these recommendations by sending circulars, to consumers.
“We would also urge ratepayers to assist the council by paying their rates at the earliest possible date, and that a notice drawing attention to this be placed on the circular in respect to water charges.”
