PATETONGA ROAD.

MINISTER PROMISES SUBSIDY. £2 FOR £1 FOR METALLING. Mr H. Poland, M.P., received the following communication from the Hon. A. D. McLeod, Minister for. Lands, this morning:— "With reference to your recent representations on behalf of Patetohga settlers, and to most recent letter received through you from the Patetonga Ratepayers’ Association, 1 recently brought before Cabinet a re- : commendation that assurance be given that in the event of the settlers, arranging with the County Council for the raising of a loan to metal the Lower Patetonga road from the junction of the Morrinsville-Maukorb Landing road ,to Ngarua Road, that a subsidy on the basis of £2 for £1 be provided. Cabinet has now approved,, the estimated cost of the work being £12,000.

“Cabinet has also approved of my recommendation that £lBOO, £2 for £1 be provided for metalling the gap in the Kaihere-Ngarua road, the balance of the cost to be taken from the Hauraki Plaims Drainage Account. “If this work is carried out it will provide a through metalled road, which will probably become the main highway from Ngarua to Mbrrinsville.”
