OHINEMURI COUNTY.
WORK OF THE MONTH. ENGINEER’S REPORT. At last Thursday’s Ohinemuri County Council meeting the engineer (Mr E. Shaw) reported as follows: — “Work was laid off on the Wai- . tawheta-Waihi road under grant of £250, free. Specifications have been approved and authority given tor metalling portion of Trig Road, Waihi, tor which tenders will be called later. The contract for forming and culverting Ngatitangata Road has been completed. “Repairs with metal have been made to Waitawheta and Abbott’s road, Waikino; Frankton and Ford roads. Waihi; Old Te Aroha Road, Mangaiti; Komata North Road, Kaimanawa ; and Rotokohu Road is now. being done. Also repairs were effected to the surfacing of portions of the main highways. The roller is still engaged between Mangaiti and Te Aroha. Owing to the unfavourable weather it only worked 10 days during the month. Should the weather continue favourable this portion will be completed during the next few - days, and when finished it will be brought to the Paeroa side of Mangaiti, and the worst places repaired there, and will then come on to Tirohia. The 100 yards of metal authorised tor this work is insufficient, and I would ask for another 50 yards to make good the weak places. On Cr. Mace’s motion it was agreed to increase the amount to 100 r yards. “Several letters will come before you to-day from ratepayers cbmplain-' ing about' the roads'leading to their holdings. (This is to be. expected at this time of the year on clay roads.) Very little can be done to improve them until the roads dry up.
“In company with the chairman I visited Houmanga Road, Waihi, concerning Mr T. Tierney’s complaint, and the road was. found to be in fair order and as good as it is possible to make it under the present conditions without metal. Also, in company with, the chairman and the riding member (Cr. P. Corbett), I inspected the road and extension required from Mr Goodwin’s to give access to Mr A. Davidson’s property. After an investigation it was found that access can be given without deviating from'the present road line, therefore saving the expense of taking extra land.’’
