SHIPPING MISHAP.
PONTOON CAPSIZED AT NGATEA.
IRONBARK POLES IN CHANNEL.
Another shipping mishap lias occurred at the Ngatea bridge owing to the difficulty of negotiating the fairway when travelling with the current. A well-known launchman who has a contract for delivering poles fe.r the Thames Valley Electric Power Board to wherever required along the Piako River arrived yesterday at Ngatea and tied up at Johnstone’s wharf. About 10' o’clock last night he commenced to proceed to Kaihere, and for the purpose of getting under way made liis pontoon fast to the piles near the bridge whiie the launch was brought round ready to commence towing. However, the rising tide jambed the pontoon, and during the manoeuvres to free it (some ropes became tangled and the pontoon was upset. Forty-odd ironbark poles now lie at the bottom of tlie channel under the bridge.
