KARANGAHAKE LADY HONOURED.

COMPETITION IN MUSIC.

In the artists’ room ot the Auckland Town Hall on Saturday evening, after the Krcisler concert, the Ada Crossley gold medal and two elegantly bound volumes of “The Well-tempered Clavichord,” by Johann Sebastian Bach, were presented to Miss Catherine Wallace and Miss Alma McGruer, L.A.8., . rospectively, by Mr Franz Krcisler on behalf of the famous contralto. Miss McGruer is the daughter of Mr G. N. McGruer, of Karangahake. This competition was held in September last, Dr. T. Haigh, examiner of the Associated Board of the Royal College of Music and Royal Academv of Music, being the adjudicator. There were four other candidates. The works performed were Bach’s Chromatic Fantasia and Fugue,, Beethoven’s C sharp minor Sonata, Chopin’s Vaises E minoi and G Hat major, and Nicode’is Tarantcllc, besides scales and arpeggios in every way, aural tests, and sight reading. The violinist spoke very kindly, and urged the young musician's to be always thorough and industrious, and push on and secure further distinction im music, and said that it was a great honour to have such gifts from so great a singer and artist.
