PLAINS BALL.

TENNIS ASSOCIATION’S FUNCTION’ A BRILLIANT success. The third annual ball of the Hauraki Plains Tennis Association, held at Ngatea last night, was undoubtedly the most successful function of its kind held in the district this season. The association had earned a good reputation by its previous functions, and the 200-odd dancers who assembled from all parts of the county were not disapopinted in their expectations, for everything calculated to make the function bettor than its predecessors had been done.

With elaborate attention to detail the interior of the hall had been gaily'-decorated with paper streamers, the blue and gold colours of the association predominating. Those responsible for the ■ decorative scheme achieved an effect that won the admiration of all present.

A party pB Turua musicians, under Miss Molloy, provided excellent dance music and demonstrated the futility of going out of tlie district for better talent. Tlie party contributed in no small wily to the enjoyment of the evening.

The floor was in good order, and the supper arrangements, considering the disadvantages worked under, were carried out without a hitch, and tlie organisation throughout reflected careful thought and untiring energy on tlie part of the local committee. At the supper interval Mr J. N. Anderson, on behalf o fthe president, who was unavoidably absent, welcomed the visitors to the function and briefly outlined the rapid strides tennis had niadc in the district. He then presented some of the trophies won during the season. The A grade trophy (Laidlaw Cup) was received by Mr C. Scott on behalf of the Turua Club, which had won the competition tlirec times. Tlie Hayward Shield, for the B grade inter-club competition, w’aa received by Mr J. Miller on behalf of the Kopuarahi Club. The medals for the handicap tournaments were won by and presented to Mrs F. Speedy, Hopai; Mrs Scott and Mrs Valentine, Turua; and Messrs D. Pike and -M. O’Connor, Patetonga.
