THAMES COUNCIL’S DECISION.
RULES OF DEBATE ENFORCED.
A question well known as a contentious one was brought up by the chairman at yesterday’s meeting of the Thames County Council, and he announced that he would control the discussions on the strict rules of debate. Councillors would be permitted to speak once, and .to reply, but there would be no time limit. * The clerk asked what would happen if a stonewall wins made, until train time.
The position was explained by the chairman and clerk in 15 minutes, moving and seconding a motion took five minutes, further explanations ten minutes, the moving and seconding of an amendment two minutes, speeches for and against and the mover’s reply took ten minutes, and a division was taken as members were leaving to catch the train.
- There being a quorum still in the room, it was decided to defer the matter until next meeting.
