HORAHIA DRAINAGE.

REMLSSION OF RATE ASKED. REPLY BY MINISTER. The Horahia Drainage Board approached the Hon. A. D. McLeod, Minister for Lands, on his visit to Ngatea recently, and asked him to remit the rate struck over the Horahia drainage district- by the Lands Department. The clerk of the board, Mr W E. G. Willy, has received the following reply from the Chief Drainage Engineer '

“Referring to previous correspondence, I have to inform you that the Hon. Minister for Lands has decided to collect a rate over the area equal to our expenditure whilst the land was nnder our‘control. The balance of the amount demanded will be written off each ratepayer’s account. Consequently, there will be no sum to hand over to your board.” i
