GOLDFIELD STARS.

RETAINED BY MORRINSVILLE.

The competition for the Goldfield Stars was concluded at Morrinsville on Saturday afternoon, when the Morrinsville team, Messrs Donald, Needham, Bint, and Branch (skip), successfully withstood a challenge from a Paeroa team, comprising Gibb, McCullay, Purdie, and P. Williams (skip). The green was in splendid playing condition, and the game throughout was an enjoyable one and characterised by consistently good play on both sides. On the 15th head Paeroa had a read of four points. However, a decided change was made on the next head, the home team piling on six points, followed by a four and two twos. The visitors made a valiant effort to regain their lost lead, but without avail, only one more point being added to the total. The final scores were : Morrinsville 25, Paeroa 16.Hearty congratulations are due to Morrinsville on winning the Stars. Early in the season the club won them from the Waikinb veterans, and have retained them against-Thames, Mat.amata,’ Hikutaia, and Paeroa. The club now has the right to hold the Stars for the season. The next competition tor them will not be held before next Labour Day.
