KEI’ORT OF FIRE COUNVII* . * The following report of the Paeroa Fire Council for the period ended January 31 was presented by the chairman, Mr F. E. Flatt, at Thursday ; night’s meeting of the Borough Council. ' i ACCIDENT INSURANCE. •This matter wavs brought under your notice, but so far no information ■ has been supplied as to tiie legal position , t FIREBELL. “Your council is o£ the opinion that tlic town would be better served if the firebell was removed to a position alongside' the brigade’s new station, more especially as the present tower is not very safe. CLEANING OF FIRE STATION. “Ai present the cleaning of the - fire station is being done by borough - workmen, and the fire council propos- > es in the near future to place this • work, at a nominal cost, in the bauds of the resident fireman. DRYING RACKS. ‘‘An application made some tim3 <-; ago for racks on which to dry the hoses has not yet received and we would ask that the work expedited. . FINANCE. ' “The financial operations for the period April 1, 1924, to January, 1925, x are as fellows :— “Receipts: Balance in hand, £4 2s 6d ; donations, £3 3s ; debit balance, £96 2s 9d. Expenditure £ll 8s 9d; lighting, 22 5s 3d; furni-. turn, £22 15s ; expenses in connection with officinal opening of station, £l2 15b Id ; social fund, £6 10s hoses, £27 Ids 9d; brigade upkeep, £l3 19s ’ 6d ; salaries, £5 ; petty cash, £1 3s 6d. - , Total, £lO3 8s 3(1, in addition to a; repayment due to the reel fund amount- - ing te £95 2s 7d. “We now; make application for grant of £lOO for present require- . T . ments and to replace money used from the reel fund. The £lO donation . promised towards the expenses of the official opening of the new station has. . not yet been received.” In moving that the report be rd - ceived the Mayor (Mr W. suggested that the fire council should y bold its meetings earlier in the month bo as to give the councillors more opportunity of going through the reports. . Cr. Flatt said that there would be ; > no difficulty in doing as suggested. .In making, application fpr a grant ’, of £lOO, Cr. Flatt pointed out th,at the^ 1 council had not made a grant to the , brigade for nearly three and a half s years.. ■. The Mayor reminded the meeting that between £3OO and £4'oo had been spent last year on the ■ new station : building. After a brief discussion it Was resolved to grant a sum of £lOO, and that the resident fireman be appointed caretaker at a cost not 5s a week. The other items contained in the report were deferred for further con- • sider; tion. £
