INFANTILE PARALYSIS.
PREVENTATIVE MEASURES. TRAVELLING RESTRICTIONS. The following telegram, received from the Health Department, Auckland, this morning, has been handed to us for publication by -Mr R. W. Evans, clerk of the Ohinemuri County Council: — ■ After midnight on Wednesday, 21st instant, all children under 16 years of age shall be prohibited from leaving either the North or the South Island for the other Island : provided that where children in either islanid are already absent fom their homes in the other island, a special permit to travel to their homes may be granted by the Medical Officer of Health, if such officer is satisfied that there is reason for these speical cases to go.’ Instructions were also given to have the above information handed to the Press thorughout the district, so that tli” public could be advised immediately. The . address of the Medical Officer of Health for Auckland province is Drill Hall, Rutland Street, Auckland. A similar, telegram has been received by the Borough Council, which is the controlling body in health matters in the borough. CHILDREN CONGREGATING. The following circular has also been received by the Borough Council "The Director-General of Public Health hereby prohibits forthwith until further notice the attendance if children under the age of sixteen years at the following places in all parts of the North Island: Theatres, including moving picture ■ theatres and music halls; schools, including Sunday schools ; recreation and sports grounds, racecourses, and all other places of public assembly, including public picnics.” ; In a covering letter accompanying the circular the Borough Council has been asked to request the prorietors and managers of picture shows and other entertainments which are open to adults to have such premises throwr open for free ventilation between performances, and also to have same sprayed with disinfecting solution and cleaned put at least' once daily. The drivers and conductors of all public conveyances are required to prevent the overcrowding Of vehicles and to ensure the fullest possible ventilation thereof. Parents and guardians of children are advised to keep their charges as much as possible in the open air, to avoid crowded places, or mixing with other children, and. when indoors to secure the utmost ventilation f of all living-rooms and bedrooms. Interviewed this morning, the Mayor (Mr W. Marshall) said that fortunately no cases of infantile paralysis had been notified within the borough to date. The council’s health committee was co-operating with the Public Health Department, and tas taking •every precaution and necessary steps to ensure that the regulations would be strictly complied with
