HAYSTACK BURNED.
35 TONS OF FODDER DESTROYED.
INCENDIARISM SUSPECTED. A large haystack, containing about thirty-five tons of hay, the property of Mr L. E. Cassrelg, Paeroa, situated at Kcmata, was destroyed by fire shortly after 5.30 o’clock this morning. The circumstances surrounding the outbreak point to the stack being deliberately set alight. It appears that Mr Cassrels and some men were working in a paddock adjacent to the stack all day yesterday baling hay, and when the paddock was left late last evening everything was apparently safe. Shortly after 5 o'clock this moining Mr Cassrels left his residence for Komata to obtaing some fencing wire. On .arrival at the paddock in which the haystack was situated he found that the gate had been opened and some horses were misstng. The stack was burning freely. The idea of spontaneous combustino being the cause of the outbreak of fire is discounted, as the fire was blazing from the four corners and the edges of the stack. The police are investigating the matter.
