YOUNG CITIZENS' LEAGUE
MEETING OF LOCAL COUNCIL, A meeting of the local advisory council of the Young Citizens’ League was held in the Mayor's room, Borough Chambers, last night, there being present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr W. Marshall) president; the Revs. F. B. Dobson and R. Morgan. Father Dunphy, Messrs G. H. Taylor. W. H. Taylor, E. E. Gillman, W. L. Lawrence, and G. H. Wilks, secretary PRESENTATION OF CERTIFICATES It was decided to hold a ceremony for the purpose of presenting certificates of membership to the local members at the High School on Friday next at 11 a.m.. weather permitting, failing which the ceremony will be held in the Drill Hall. The Mayor agreed to make the presentation. and it wars decided to invite the parents and friends of the members to be present. LEAGUE’S PAPER. Mr Wilks reported that the League's monthly paper was not being received. He considered it was necessary to receive the paper, so as to keep in touch with the league’s activities in other parts. It was agreed to write to the organising secretary and request that the paper should be forwarded regularly. FINANCE. A number of accounts were presented foi payment, but the secretary stated that up to the present no effort had been made to raise funds to carry on the work in Paeroa. After some discussion the outstanding liabilities amounting to about £3 were donated by three members present at the meeting. It wa: resolved that on school resuming after the holidays the league members should organise u series of concerts, under the jursidiction of Messrs G. H. Taylor and Wilks, as a means of raising funds. SCOPE OF ACTIVITIES., A long discussion as to what form the activities of the local branch should take, so as to stimulate interest and to conform with the aims and objects of the league in its relation to citizenship. Many useful and practical suggestions were put forward, but it was decided that owing to the holidays intervening no active steps should be taken until early in February. The question of presentation of member's certificates to those who had not quite acted up to the obligations required by the league was discussed at considerable length. Finally it was agreed to leave the matter in the hands of the president and Messrs G. H. Taylor and Wilks.
