local season opens. MATAURA DEFEATS PAEROA. Tire first cricket match of this season to be held in Paeroa was played at the domain on Monday, when the Mataura (Waihi) eleven defeated the local team by the narrow margin of six runs. The weather was fine, with a slight westerly wind. There were a number of interested spectators present during the day. Considering that it was the first match of the season, so far as the local club was concerned, some very interesting cricket was played, and the local eleven put up a very goolg. showing against their more experienced opponents, who were last year’s winners of the senior competition at Waihi This season .the Paeroa has several young players of promise, and given a reasonable amount of practice they should give a good account of themselves before very long.
