THE ESTIMATES.
GROTS FOR DISTRICT. ROADS AND DRAINAGE. In the Public Works Estimates presented to Parliament by the Minister for Public Works (Hon, J. G. Coates) on Monday there are several grants of interest to this district The amount voted last year for the Waihou and Ohinemuri Rivers Improvement account was £90,000, and £70.533 was expended. The liability at March 31, 1924, was £1522, and £70,000 is the amount required to be voted this year.
Under the heading of public buildings £l7O is set down for a (ock-up at Kerepeehi. For a new post and telegraph office at Ngatea £3000! is required, and £2OO for a shed at the same place has not been expended from last, year’s grant. The following grants have been made for the construction, maintenance, and supervision of roads, bridges, etc.: Awaiti Block roads (Netherton to Awaiti), (£ for £), £1000; Hauraki Plains roads, Turua (£1 for £4), £lOOO , Kaihere Landing westwards (£ for £), £2000; Kaihere-Ohinewai (£l3O, £2 for £1), £330 ; Kerepeehi to Kaihere Landing (£ for £). £lOB3 ; Mangatarata bridges (on account of £5OO, £ for £), £250; Mangawhara, £100; Matikoro Canal Road (on account of £l5OO, £1 for £2), £5OO ;• Maukoro Landing Road (£6OO, £ for £), £B3O ; Miranda to Waitakaruru (£278, £ for £), £778 ; Morrinsville to Waitakaruru (Patetonga to Kaihere), (£ for £), £100; Netherton to AWaiti, £3OO ; Newman’s Road (£ for £), £500; Ngararahi Stop-bank Road (contribution), £323; Ngatea to Kaihere (on account of £5OOO, £ for £), £1000; Opani to Turua (£ for £), £B5O ; Orchard East Road (extension), £BOO. Paeroa to Turua: Turua section (£ for £), £250; Netherton section (1 for £). £517; Pukahu, £lOOO ; School Road (£ for £), £lOOO ; Waikumete Stream bridge (approaches), £200; Waitakaruru Stream canal bridge, £850; Waitakaruru Stream Road (£ for £), £63. Morrinsville to Tahuna, £BO3 ; Morrinsville to Tahuna (£ for £), £155; Morrinsville to Tahuna and Mangateparu, £1250 ; Morrinsville to Waitakaruru, £2150; Paeroa-Tahuna from Piako River to Morrinsville Road, £450 ; Piako River landing and shed at Tahuna, £l5O. Pofteno-Waitakaruru road, £438, to meet a liability out of a grant ol £ll7l voted last year. A number of grants voted last year have been transferred to the Main Highways Board. These include the following:— . Piako River bridge, £1000; Pipiroa to Orongo Road, £5OO ; Waihou River bridge at Kirikiri, £200; Paeroa to Te Aroha road, £350; Wilson’s Road, £l5OO ; Thames to Hikutaia, £6OOO. Under the heading of lands improvement there are the following• ■ Hauraki Drainage Board, £750, and isub.sidy on account of vote of £l5OO another £7OO ; Hauraki pastoral areas, formation, construction, and compensation at Thames, Ohinemuri, and Coromandel, £Booo' is erquired. Last year £25,000 was voted and £7299 expended.
Piako River stop-banks near Ngatea. £2500 ; drainage of lands adjoining Orchard East Road, Waihou survey district, £750; Waitoa River dredging North Road to Paeroa- Taliuna Road, £3500, and Paeroa-Tahuna Road to Ohine stream, W5O0 1 . For opening up land for settlement in the Waitakaruru Block £134 has been set down, and £1523 for Roimmga
The Main Highways Board, No. 2 district, will require the following amounts : Pokeno-Waihi, £9966 ; Po-keno-Tauranga to Coromandel, £5287 ; Paeroa-Kopu, £3OOO ; Hamilton-Pae-roa, £3972.
