BALL AT NGATEA.
ANNUAL FACTORY FUNCTION. The annual ball organised by the staff of the Ngatea factory is always looked forward to as one of the big functions in the social activities of the Plains, and the success which characterised this year’s effort will undoubtedly add to their enviable reputation. The function was held in the Ngatea Hall last evening, and was attended by a large number of dancers. including many visitors. Neither effort nor expense had been considered by the promoters in preparing for the evening. The hall was effectively decorated with native foliage, flowens, crepe paper, streamers, and balloons, and weeks were spent in preparing the floor. A factor contributing largely to the evening’s entertainment was the excellent music rendered by an orchestra of eight instruments from the Y.M.C.A. at Waharoa, and augmented throughout the evening by local musicians. A welcome innovation for Ngatea was the provision of a marquee at the rear of the hall to make up for its lack of a supper-room. Here a sumptuous supper was provided, a number of Ngatea ladies being in charge. This arrangement was very favourably commented upon, as it obviated the long break in the programme that is necessary when supper has to be handed round. Tiie function went with a swing until the early hours of the morning; and great credit is reflected on its promoters for having organised such an enjoyable evening.
