A RICH INDUSTRY
FLAX BOOM ON PLAINS. BIG SYNDICATES INTERESTED. While the settlers of .the Hauraki Plains do not seem to yet realise the vast possibilities of the area for flaxgrowing the same cannot be said- of big finaicial syndicates. During the past few days negotiations have been proceeding with a syndicate whose funds run into six figures in regard to securing some thousands of acres near Patetonga for ..the purpose of developing this big dividend-produc-ing- industry. Hints dropped by millers and others indicate that numerous other inquiries are being made. A few groups of local men are also among the inquirers who desire to get in on the ground floor, and no doubt the publicity here given will not be welcomed by them, for it is obvious that when the great suitability of the Hauraki Plains for flax cultivation is realised it will not be possible to acquire land at presentday prices. ’
