PERSONAL.

The friends of Mr W. J. Byrne, of Thames Road, Paeroa, will be pleased to hear that he has so far recovered as to be able to return to his home. For the past eight months Mr Byrne has been receiving treatment at Hanmer Springs, and at the Evelyn Firth Home, Auckland, as a result of war disabilities. Miss C. Grant, who has held the position of telephone exchange attendant in Paeroa for the last six years, has received notice of transfer to Auckland. Mr G. Dean, of Auckland, who has been in Paeroa during the week, returned to Auckland by steamer this afternoon. Mr Dean, who resided here for some twenty years, remarked that, he was suprised at the progress made by Paeroa, and he felt optimistic as to its future as an important inland town.
