OBITUARY.
MR. JOHN MIGHT COOTE. By the death of Mr J. M. Coote at Auckland on Tuesday last a once well-known resident of Paeroa and the goldfields was removed. Deceased, who was a son of Mrs J'. Coote, Paeroa, was for years employed in-the Woodstock battery at Karangahake, and held other important positions in batteries at Thames, being also for some time battery .superintendent for Muir’s Reefs, Te Puke. He was compelled to relinquish the last-mention-ed position owing to ill-health. Tn the n’neties deceased was recognised as one of the best footballers in the district, having represented Thames in many important matches in the days xvhen the McGregor family was predominant. He was an enthusiastic athlete, and won laurels in other branches of sport. His early life was spent in Paeroa, where he vas a pupil of. the local school, and later of the Thames High School. The deceased leaves a wife and family, and the news of his death will be received with genuine regret by a wide circle of friends.
