ANNUAL MEETING. The annual general meeting of the 3gutea-Public Hall Society was held on Thursday evening, Mr G. T, Davidson presiding over ail attendance Ji' twelve. - The annual report was as follows: "In presenting the. second annual re--1 ort and balauce-sheet I am pleased io be able to say that the position < i closed ,by the . balance-sheet is untie satisfactory. During the year j .st ended the total expenditure n mounted, to £554 14s Id, but of this sum £405 jte 4d was spent in improveliients. The amount spent in running expenses and general was £a49 13s 9d, and the income was £177 is-9d, leaving a credit balance of £27 10s. Of this £19.. 15s has been allowed for depreciation, and the balance carried to capital account. The only item appearing in the receipts which is not likely to be realised this year is t ! a 1 of £l5. for school rent. On the expenditure side the items which, J think, can be materially reduced are caretaker, £43 3s 9d, and maintenance and general, £27 9s 2d. All the oilier items are small, and I do not think' any are likely to be deduced. W<th our present bank overdraft ini' rest charges are likely to be higher unless steps are taken to reduce the amount.” , I’he statement of assets and liabiliiies showed assets totalling £lO2l 12s 64. being the value of the hall, section. piano, and furniture. The liabilities were shown as: Bank overdraft £430 16s sd, and sundry creditors £1 10s sd, leaving a balance of n-sets over liabilities of £SS3 5s Bd. On the motion of the chairman, secm ded by Mr W. McDuff, the reporta d balance-sheet were adopted. Phe following new members were appointed: Messrs R. B. Paul, J. Cost'dlo, G. Phillips, Rev. E. H. Brooker, J Darlington, and J. N, Anderson, " Mr Schultz moved a vote of thanks to the retiring committee which was si conded by Mr Darlington and carried by acclamation.
The officers appointed for the ensuing year were: President, Mr G. T. Davidson ; vice-presidents, Messrs W. J Clare and W. McDuff; committee, Messrs S. Phillips, J, Costello, Rev. E H. Brooker, J. Darlington, C. W. Schultz ; auditor, Mr E. Walton : secretary, Mr J. N. Anderson. The president and .secretary were authorised to operate on the banking in '-oiint.
The matter of the renewal of the lease for the stall was discussed at length, and it was left to a sub-com-mittec. comprising Mess)r* Davidson, Clare,' McDuff. and the secretary, to go into the question, with power to act.
v In reference to the proposal to erect a kitchen at the hall, Mr W. .T. Clare submitted alternative estimates for a 12ft by 10ft lean-fo, with a slide opening on to' the stage, and fitted with ' cupboards', tables, etc.. at £43 12s. and for a detached kitchen costinc £4 more. ' A chip heater would - cost £l2 10s, and an electric heater £9 10s. The material proposed to he used would he in keeping with the main building. Owing to the fact that the society did not have the fund- available at the present time it was decided to hold the matter over, but that the secretary immediately get quotations for an electric appliance for boiling wafer. This could be placed on the '■ stage, for the present. It was left to a snb-committec to deal with the Hr W. ,T. Clare was instructed ’o procure material and erect cupboards * -for th e crockery.
