CROQUET.

CLOSING PAI. The formal - closing of the Paciuu Cloquet Club was held on the lawn on Wednesday afternoon last The weather was mild, and an enjoyable afternoon was spent. It is not usut.i for the club to have a closing afte 1 - noon, but judging by the success of lad Wednesday's function it is expect ed that the event will be made an annual one in future. The first part of the afternoon was devoted to-a- progressive crouuet toiunament, for which prizes wer.e generously donated by Mrs H. E. Andrews, who, : although not a player, has always been na ardent supporter of theclub. The prizewinners were; A Grade, Mrs W. H. Taylor; booby prize, Mrs W. Barclay, 1* Grade. Miss Daw her; boobj- prize. Nurse Clvmo. During the afternoon lea adjournment the president, Mrs Conolly, presented the prizes, and in doing so referred to tlie successful season that had been enjoyed by the club, and thanked the members for the hearty support accorded during her term as president. She congratulated the winners, and expressed the thanks of the club to those who had donated trophies during the season. The rest of the afternoon was de voted to a target croquet competition. for -which prizes were donated by W s Conolly. Trams were arranged between players and honorary members, and a keen and enjoyable competition ensued, the prizes being awarded to Mrs Talboys (players), and Mrs 0. Edwards (members). At the conclusion of the games the president declared the lawns closed. Cb/'crs were' heartily accorded Mrs Connoily, and she was subjected to hearty congratulations by the members for the interest she had displayed and tile good work, she had don-.' during the, year, and hopes were expressed health of Mrs Conolly would be so far improved as to enab’c her to take part in the competition* next year.

Mrs G. P. Lamb referred to the help and e'.couragement given lo the *B players during the year by the secretary. Mrs G. H. Taylor, who was asked to accept a Doulton salad bowl from the beginners as a token of appreciation of the services *renderd to the players.

Mrs Taylor expressed her gratitude and.assured the members that it had given her pleasure to assist them i:i anyway.
