Vincent, Messrs .J. Couper, B. Sheriff, and Ah Hing during the recent flood in the Ohinemuti River, 1 am directed to express the M ’tisler's regret that such inconvenience and loss should have been experienced in connection with this and similar floods over a wide extent of country, but r have to state that th? Department cannot recognise liability for compensation in respect of these losses. As far as can be judged the particular losses mentioned in youi’ communications were due entirely to the exceptional rainfall and the specially rapid rate of ‘run-off’ from the catchment area of. the Ohinemuri River.”
