DISTRESSING ACCIDENT.

CYCLIST AND GIG COLLIDE. BODY IMPALED ON SHAFT. A distressing accident occurred on the Ngatea-Kerepeehi road on Tuesday evening last. While motor-cycling to a dance ini Ngatea Mr Steve Nicholson, an employee of the Lands Depintnv nt at Kerepeehi collided at r. corner with a gig driven by his fa ,b er. Mr .1. H. Nicholson, with such fo'-ce that one of the shafts passed l irht th rough his body just below the shoulder.

The injured man was taken home, and later was conveyed to the Thames Hospital, where an operation was immediately performed. Some 20 nieces of bone were removed from the wound.

From inquiry at the hospital this morning it was learned that Mr Nichelson i< progressing as satisfactorily as can ho expected.
