COMPLIMENTARY SOCIAL.
ST. PAUL’S LAMBS BXTEBTAINBD A most enjoyable evening was spent by some eighty of the parishioners of St. Paul’s in the Parish Hall on Tuesday evening last, when the men of the parish entertained the ladies at a complimentary social gathering. The particular motive for this action on the part of the men was the desire to show their appreciation of the splendid work done, not only by the Ladies’ Guild, but by all the ladies who assisted in making the recent sale of work such a complete success. Upon entering the hall it was evident that although the whole of the arrangements of the evening’s entertainment were in the hands of “ mere men,” they had some notions on the subject of decorating ,the room, and their guests were generous in their expressions of admiration of the artistic effects produced by the wealth of flowers effectively arranged on the various tablesAfter the vicar, the Rev. F. B. Dobson, had welcomed the guests, a programme of gramophone music was given, each of the sixteen items being records made by some of the world’s most famous, artists. Card games were also played during the evening, and songs given by Messrs j. Staunton and Geo. Hart, and a recitation by Dr. Smith, which were much appreciated. After supper, had been partaken of the tables were pushed aside and some of the younger people indulged in dancing, but after a few dances it was realised that the weather conditions were rather ’too sultry for even the most ardent followers of the Terpischorean art, and a particularly happy social gathering was brought to a close shortly before midnight.
