PIPIBOA WHOOPING COUGH. An outbreak of whooping cough has occurred at Pipiroa. Over a quarter of the pupils attending the school are ill, and the matter of closing the school is being considered. TURUA. SCHOOL GROUND IMPROVEMENTSThe Turua School Committee decided on Tuesday evening to have part of the playground laid down in asphalt. The total cost will be about £l4O, and the work will be done during the summer holidays. NGATEA. STOCK SALE. . There was a very big yarding at the Loan and Mercantile Agency’s stock sale at Ngatea on Friday last, but the sale was very dull. There was no demand whatever for dairy cattle or for big steers. Fat cows brought from £3 to £4' 2s 6d, others 30s to £2 15s • empty heifers 35s to 455; bulls £3 10s to £lO 10s, rough bulls £1 to £2 ; fresh, fleshy 3-year steers £4 10s to £5 ss. PRESENTATION. Prior to his departure for Auckland, where he has now made his home, Mr Hallyburton Johnstone, one of the early settlers of Ngatea, was presented by Mr W. G. Hayward, on behalf of the people of Ngatea, with a handsome inscribed walking-stick as a token of remembrance. * KOPUARAHI, ” CRICKET. The Kopuarahi Tennis Club opened its season on Saturday-last in splendid weather, and visitors were present from the. Turua, Hopai, and Ngatea clubs and all spoke highly of the now concrete court. The club has a membership of nearly forty, and the prospects for the season are bright.
