ACCIDENT ON PUKE ROAD

HOUSE AND CAB COLLIDE. . About 8 P.m. on Friday last a youth named Edward Dye, 18 years of age, who is employed by Mr H. Goble, farmer, Netherton, was riding into Paeroa, and when near the bridge opposite the gas,works on Puke Road he was struck by a motor-car, which was travelling in the opposite direction. The horse was struck by the car on the off front, leg, which was much cut about, and both the rider and the animal were thrown to thegrouiid. The youth had a fortunate escape, getting off with a severe .shaking. The driver of the car pulled up and told Dye that he would return to him in a few minutes, and then drove on, but he did not return. Dye states that the headlights and the tail-light were burning on the car at the time of the accident, and the number plate was visible. The police have taken the matter up.
