DOMAIN BOARD.
THURSDAY’S MEETING. /ifter the Paeroa Borough Council meeting on Thursday evening last the Domain Committee met. Mr W. Marshall presided. USE OF DOMAIN. An application fpr. the use of the Domain was made by the'Paeroa Cricket, Club. 'Phe Mayor said that as the club was a struggling one the fee should be a nominal rental of £3. It was resolved that the club should be asked to replace the turf taken off the pitch. Mr Shand said that if the Cricket Club was asked to replace the turf, the same point might be pressed on the Rugby Union. Mr Bain considered that the £3 rental was a gain to the Board, and he was of the opinion that the Board could quite well replace the turf. Mr. Marshall said that the Cricket Club should be advised that there was a possibility of its season being a short one, in view of possible domain improvements. After further discussion the application was granted at a rental of £3. The Hauraki A. and P. Association • also applied for the use of the Domain for the purpose of holding its show on November 28 and 29, and asked permission to charge admission. Mr Marshall said that he had gone into the question of rent and found that the amount charged the association. had been worked out in improvements. Since 1920, as far as he could ascertain, .no rental had been .paid, and he was doubtful if any improvements had been carried out.' Mr Edwards said he understood that several improvements had been effected. Last year the association had levelled off a bank and filled in hollows in the domain ground. A crossing had also been put in over the drain. Mr Flatt thought that the present arrangements were very unbusinesslike. He favoured a definite rental being paid. Mr Vuglar said he felt sure that the ' improvements carried out had exceeded the rents due. Mr Brenan thought that the association had been very fairly treated in the past. He moved that the application be granted, and that the association be asked to pay a cash amount of £5 rental for the two days, and in addition to pay all advertising charges in connection with notifying permission to charge. Seconded by Mr Marshall and carried. - Mr Edwards said that a working bee had already been arranged with a view to working out this year’s rental. Mr Marshall said that it appeared to him an extraordinary proceeding for an association to undertake improvements without any reference to the Board. TENNIS COURTS. The following report was adopted: “Tn compliance with a at a previous meeting your committee wishes to recommend that the neces- ( sary repairs to' the tennis courts be carried out, and that two nets should be procured. Also that notices containing the necessary extracts fromthe by-laws and regulations as to flees under by-law 19 be posted in the tennis and bowling pavilions, and that ’ the Board’s secretary should obtain quotations for printing calico signs of the Domain by-laws and regulations. ’- It was also resolved that the tennis courts should not be open for school children after 5 p.m. from Mondays to Fridays, inclusive, and after noon on Saturdays. Mr Bain thought that school children should not be debarred from, playing after 5 p.m. Mr Marshall replied that scTiool children would have an equal right to the use of the courts with.adults on all holidays.
