BOWLING.

EXTRAORDINARY MEETING. ORDER OF PLAYING; An extraordinary general meeting of the Paeroa Bowling Club was held in the pavilion on Saturday afternoon. The president (Mr W. T. Power) occupied the chair. The meeting was held to consider the following notice of motion, moved by Mr Le Cocq and seconded by Mr D. Brown: . “That during the Brenan Shield competition for the present season the members of each team play in t)he following order: First game, skip, 3,2, 1; second game, 3,2; 1, skip ; third game; 2,1, skip, 3; fourth game, 1; skip, 3,2 , fifth game, skip, 3,2, 1.” In moving his resolution Mr Le Cocq said that he was anxious to see ea< h club member given an equal chance of learning the different positions in a team. For years past a player had been playing in the same position, and he was of the opinion that it, was only fair that they should change players. He thought it Would give the players confidence, develop their playing ability, and generally give more satisfaction than the present method of allotting positions in the teams by the selectors. Mr de Castro moved an amendment to the effect that the skips change alternately with the thirds and leads and seconds each game. Seconded by Mr L. Gibb. Mr G. H. Taylor said he thought the scheme proopsed by Mr Le Cocq would not work at all satisfactorily; He considered it was not fair to young players, nor in the best interests of bowls in such an important. competition. He thought that young players should be content to play lead until such time as the selector felt) that they were justified in promoting them. He intended to vote aganist both the resolution and amendment, After several other members spoke the amendment was put and declared lost on a show of hands. The resolution was then put and also lost. The position now is that twelve skips from the whole of the players' shall be balloted for by the members, apd those skips shall, in rotation, select their numbers 3,2, and 1 men. Each play_er will play in the competition in the position in which he has been selected by his skip. During the afternoon ballot papers were handed to each member present for the purpose of selecting twelve players for skips from a list of some 4'B members. At the conclusion of the afternoon’s play the president announced that the following had been selected: G. H. Taylor, W. H. Taylor, G. P. de Castro, W. J. Towers, F. Le Cocq, P. Williams, <N. C. Busby, F. J. Wells, J. Pinder, F. H. Hayward, W. T. Power, and L. C. Cane. The skips elected are to meet at the pavilion on Thursday evening and select their teams for the Brenan Shield competition.
