VISIT TO MRS. HIGGINS. SYMPATHY APPRECIATED. The Mayoress; of Waihi (Mrs Wallnuit), accompanied by Mesdames Haimlton (Waihi Hospital Board), O’Grady, and Jowsey, journeyed b.y car to Waita.whe.ta on Friday last with a view to paying a visit tio Mrs Higgins, wife of the man Higgins now in custody on a charge of murder. The residence is in an isolated pait of the Waitawheta bush. Mrs Higgins seemed quite surprised at the visit, and said she thought the world was embittered against her. The Mayoress pointed out that they recognised her as a sister, and that the churches and others were praying for her in her gi'eat, trial; also, that she had many friends. Mrs "Higgins anxiously inquired after the patients in the hospital, and when informed that they were making good progress showed much relief and pleasure. The visitors describe Mrs Higgins as a refii.ed woman, with sorrow plainly written on her face. When saying good-bye-Mrs Higgins said, “You do not know what; this visit you ladies have made means to me. I feel a great deal better.” The ladies also visited Mrs Stewart (mothei’ of one of the little victims), who Expressed pleasure at the call and said that everyone had sympathy with Mrs Higgins.
