FAIRYLAND FROLICS.
CHILDREN’S BALL. That the Central Theatre was literally converted into a Fairy land last night mast go without saying, when the children’s fancy dress ball brought tp a close the dancing classes that have been held during the winter moqfchs. The floor was crowded with children and the gallery for spectators packed. Mamma was there to see how her children had ptbgressed with the dancing and Dad was there to see just what Mamma had decked the kiddies out in—no.t that he hadn’t heard all about it for the last month, but just to realise how pretty they all looked when out for a romp. It was a joyous band and the happiest of company, in which tiny fairies, Gipsies, Japanese, butterflies, Follies, Little Boy Blue, Sheiks, Pierrot, jazz Pierrot, jazz- Powder, Powder Puffs, Old English Costumes, and, in fact, all manner of fancy costumes or “all nations” mingled. To describe all would indeed be a colossal undertaking, but the judge, the Mayoress (Mrs W. Marshall), picked on the following as prizewinners :— Most Original.—Wedding Cake, Coralie Hale; Jazz Powder, Ivan Hansen. Tango Glide.—Coleen Steedman and Kerry Miller. Best Costume (special prize)—Pink Rose, Margaret Nicholas. Original Costume (special prize).— Knitting, Joyce Say. Pierrot, Miss C. Holwell; The Sheik, Master W. Southby; Ale, Mrs Pennell; Sporting and Dramatic, Mrs Neil.
