IMPROVE YOUR HERD.
AN OPPORTUNITY OFFERING. PEDIGREE SALE IN PAEROAThe cry is very often heard, especially at this time of year, “Get, rid of your scrub bull.” A unique opportunity will be accorded the farmers of the district to secure a good bull on Thursday, September 27, when the Thames Valley Jersey Breeders’ Club has arranged to hpld its first annual sale of pedigree stock in the Paeroa saleyards. Some 66 lots will be offered, and the following well-known breeders are represented in the catalogue : Messrs Tizard Bros., W. IHall, B. E. Veale, W. Muir, J. K. Dean, Keightly Bros, G. Buchanan, J. Irwin, R. Stock, E. J. Walters, and F. A. Kneebone (Jersey) ; G. H. Strieff, O. Dale, and C. Boyce (Friesian) ; and P. R. Hubbard (Ayrshire). The local Jersey Breeders’ Club is to be heartily congratulated on the enterprise shown by the members in inaugurating such an important sale. Given a fine day, it is safe to predicthat a large attendance of farmers will be lining the rails at the saleyards to-morrow week. The opportunity of being able tp purchase pedigree bulls almost at their own doors should strongly appeal to farmers. The efficacy of a good bull in a herd has long been proved by practical farmers, and therefore the first thing to be done is .to get rid of the scrub bull. One stands a far betteq chance ol securing a good bull if he has no bull at all. Moreover, what the butcher pays for the useless beast will start a purebred purchasing fund. By getting together and cooperating liberally, loyally, and enthusiastically, farmers and breeders will be given an opportunity on Thursday, the 27th,. of solving a big problem.
