FOOTBALL SOCIAL.
A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. Of the regular annual functions he’d locally that of the Rugby Union is usually one of the most popular, and this year’s event, which took place on Tuesday last, was no exception. The attendance was good, and the evening passed off merrily, a long programme being put through to the good music played by Mrs Potter. The euchre tournament attracted a good number of players, the first prize, half-dozen stainless knives, presented by Mrs Corbett, of Hiktuaia, falling to Mrs Chisholm, and the second prize to Mrs Hale, three bags of coal, presented by Short Bros. The gentleman’s first prize, presented by Mr Reg. Medhurst, was won by Mr 0Miller, and the second by Mr W. Smith. Extras were contributed by Mrs Budd’s orchestra. A delicious supper was provided by the ladies, assisted by donations of cakes and bread from business men, and was much enjoyed.
