KEREPEEHL . — ~ LAUNCH ‘PIPIROA.” The Lands Department's launch Pipiroa, which has been a familiar figure on the river for the past ten years, is undergoing overhaul at Kerepeehi after being laid up for some time. STREET LIGHTING. A meeting of residents was held in the hall on Friday evening to further the proposal to have street lights installed around Keerpeehi. Mr G. A. Avey presided over a small attend- ; ance. The Power Board wrote in response to several letters' from the committee stating that the annual charge for lOOc.p. lamps would be £3 and 200c.p. lamps £4 10s. Replacements would cost 5s for 100C.P- and 8s 3d for 200c.p. A time-switch, costing approximately £lO, would have to be installed. The . lights could be installed within about ; six .weeks. I Mr Avey said that the number of ~ . lights already decided upon, together ; with one which had been suggested ; at the corner of the KerepeehiWharepoa road and the Pepakepal Ngatea road, would cost £37 10s. The/j t charge for the time-switch was not a recurring one. No money was required for three months, nor was a guarI antee asked for. So far public subf scriptions had yielded about £27, and > this was sufficient to start, with, as a regular income was assured from the i weekly jazz class. > The secretary reported that no do- , nation had been forthcoming from the ; shipping companies towards the cost’ . of a light on the wharf. E It was decided to have the extra > light installed at the- corner, as sug- > gested. The secretary was instructed to re- ; quest the Power Board to instal the - eight lights as soon as possible. 1 The matter of the social function, 5 as suggested at the previous meeting, was deferred. The Ngatea Hall Society’s weekly ' dances are becoming very popular., ' The dances are well conducted by members of the society;. the music ’’ is excellent, and the charges low. 1
