INFLUENZA. Influenza, which for the last six weeks has been more or less epidemic in its nature, is gradually disappearing. Almost every household has had its victim, while in several instances whole families have been prostrated. The school attendance has suffered badly, the average for the last month having been over 30’ per cent, below normal. DAIRYING. With the advent of spring work the dairy farms dairying is becoming more brisk, though the scarcity Of feed, especially on those areas that suffered from the effects of the recent floods, does not serve to increase the output. With the appearan.ee of the spring grass brighter times are anticipated. . SALE. At >the usual fortnightly sale on Wednesday there was a fair yarding, with a capital attendance of buyers. Beef showed an advance in price, though the demand for stores and springers, owing to the scarcity of feed, was not great. EXCURSION. Over 50 pupils of the Kcpu school, under the head teacher, Mr J. Renwick, together with a number of adults, visited Mr E. J. Walters’ farm on Thursday, when they received a hearty welcome and were shown the various birds and animals, whiejjj make up the population of the local zoo. The children were greatly interested in what they saw, the ostriches and the swans exciting great interest, while the fine herd of pedigree Jersevs were much admired. The proprietor did his utmost to make the outing enjoyable, and appeared to enjoy the visit as much as the guests. Mr Walters’ place is quite an attraction,. and in summer is visited by quite a large number of people who take an interest in bird and animal ’ life.
