BALL OF THE SEASON.
<j GIVEN BV OHINEMURI CLUB. A NIGHT OF GREAT PLEASURE. The Central Theatre presented a striking scene of beauty and animation on Thursday last,, .when the only function of its kind for the season, the Ohinemuri Club’s annual invitar tion ball, was held. Theie were upwards of two hundred guests present, and the evening was a marked social success. A glance at the decorations at once conveyed the idea that the decorative committee of the club had exerted its efforts fo make the hall attractive. A large centre piece was suspended from the ceiling,, and was decorated with art trellis paper, with a dark background and pink plimiiw roses attached to this, and extended to the walls, stage, and dress-circle were black and pink ribbons and a profusion pf lanterns shaded with pink. This produced a very brilliant and charming effect. The walls were were also papered with beautiful art panel paper with a black background and pink roses, giving the hall a comfortable appearance. The stage was decorated to represent a moonlignt bush scene, and this was very thoroughly carried out. The background was of soltr green, and the dark green foliage of the shrubs and palms formed a pleasing and effective picture. When the first ,waltz tune floated across the ballroom the full effect of the delightful decorations could be appreciated. A recherche supper was served in the . adjoining supper-room, rare dainties in the way of savouries, trifles, salads, and other tempting dishes being much enjoyed. The arrangements made in the dispensing of the supper by members of the club met with warm approval, and were an added enjoyment of the evening. The splendid state of the dancing floor, the music, and the happy atmosphere of the ballroom made one and all feel that the annual fixture was one not to be missed. The hostesses. Mesdames W, J. Towers and W. D. Nicholas; Mr W. J. Towers, president of the Club, and the masters of ceremonies, Messrs R. B. Penlington and I.
