SCHOOLS AT PLAY.

BASKETBALL AND* FOOTBALL. AN OUTING AT THAMES. On. Saturday last about 75 school children, both primary and secondary, accompanied by their headmaster, Mr G. H. Taylor, and several teachers, journeyed from Paeroa to Thames to try conclusions at basketball and football with the Thames High School and the South School. The paeroa Hiuh School boys played the Thames boys in the morning on the High School ground. The Thames boys proved too strong, though the team was only the school’s second fifteen, Paeroa suffering defeat by 18 tp 0. Iu the afternoon a football match was played at the racecourse between the Paeroa primary boys and the Thames south boys, but the latter proved much too strong for their opponents, and although three of the biggest boys were taken off at halftime and their places taken by three light-weights the Thames team was able to win by 64 to 5. The Paeroa boys took their defeat like good sportsmen and no word of complaint was heard. Altogether the visit was most enjoyable for all concerned. The. basketball matches were played on the High School ground. Four games in all were played, two between the two high schools and'two between Paeroa and Thames South primary. The Thames teams were again too strong, Paeroa being able to claim a draw only in one game, that against the Thames High School “B” team. The other games icsult.ed as follows: Thames South “B” 10, v. Paeroa primary “B” 6 ; Thames South “A” 8, v. Paeroa primary “A” 4; Thames High School “A” 6, v. Paeroa High School “A” 3. At the conclusion of the basketball the visitors were entertanied to luncheon at the High School and at the South School by the local teams.
