COMMITTEE MEETING. A meeting of the N.Z. Dairy Co. suppliers committeemen was held at Ngatea on Tuesday. Mr W. E.'Hale presided over a fair attendance. Mi W. H. Blakeway and Mr Tattersad were also in attendance The functions of the suppliers committee were explained by Mr Blakeway. The market report was read and discussed, and matters in connection with herd testing and the marketing of coal was discussed. It was decided that each committee nominate the course to to be followed with credit balances on cartage service contracts. Mr Harvey gave a resume of the operations of the Ngatea- factory an 1 district. A vote of thanks to Mr E. Taylor, Lands Drainage Engineer, for his action in having the Ngarua canal cleaned and a road attended to, thereby facilitating transportation of Kaihere cream, was carried by acclamation. CAREERS' FOR BOYS. In reply to a question Mr Harvey said that the butter factory offered a promising career for boys who were prepared to profit by the experience gained. Boys were given every opportunity. to learn all branches of the work. At Ngatea five men had been given the opportunity of getting an engineer’s ticket. All were given the opportunity of learning to test. In regard to special education., Mr Harvey said that this "as not required. A good grounding in the primary or possibly secondary schools was all that was required. COAL. In regard to coal Mr Harvey said that it had been suggested that coal be bagged at Mt Eden and Shipped to various ports on the Piako River. Sending trucks of coal by rail was out of the question owing to the cost of cartage to the Plains. The company would probably supply the sacks and refund the cost if they were not returned. Coal had been landed at Ngatea at 10s 3d a ton less than the usual price. Suppliers would also get the rebate. However, said the speaker, the Mt. Eden deoot was not established yet, and orders were not yet being taken from suppliers on the Plains. THE DAVIES CUP. Mr Blakeway said that this cup had been presented by Mr R. L. Davies, of Kerepeehi, to stimulate competition among the suppliers on the various cartage routes to the Ngatea factory. The figures for; the past season had been ascertained and would be made known at a social evening to be held in the Ngatea Hall on Wednesday, Ist August, when the cup will be presented to the convenor of the cartage committee on the winning route. All present were constituted a connfiittee to arrange the social, .and arrangements were made to make the function a success. Mr W. E. Hale was appointed chairman, and Messrs A- R- Vowles and C. Mellor joint secretaries. Mr Sinclair, of the executive staffs would be invited to make the presentation. MEETINGS,. It was decided that meetings jf committeemen be held n.onthly instead of quarterly, on the last Tuesday in the month. APPRECIATION. Tt was decided that it be a recommendation to the directors that a letter of appreciation»be sent to Waikato Hospital Board commending.it on the action taken up in regard to the supply of butter to the hospital. SEPARATORS. • * Mr Tattersal-1 pointed out that the company would inspect and do minor repairs to suppliers’ separators. Suppliers who .desired to avail themselves of this should notify the Paeroa office. Many interesting points gleaned at the recent school at Ruakura Experimental Farm were given by Mr Tattersail. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the company’s officials'for attending and supplying such interesting information.
