KEREPEEHL FAREWELL EVENING.. On Tuesday last the Kerepeehi Jazz Club tendered a farewell evening to Mrs R. Potter and Mr J. Potter, who are leaving the district. On behalf of the club Mr H. Hoff presented Mrs Potter with a handsome Doulton jug and Mr Potter with some music. On behalf of the Tennis Club, of which they were enthusiastic members, Mr B. Frecklington, president, presented Mrs Potter with a silver teapot and Potter with a fountain pen. Dancing was carried cm till a late hour. A feature of the evening was the chorus singing by members of the Kerepeehi Concert Party. NGATEA. MISHAPS ON RIVER. On Saturday while the launch Ngatimaru was approaching the Ngatea bridge the rudder chain broke, with the result that the vessel crashed into the bridge, breaking a plank below the water-line. The launch was tied up above the bridge and .sank during the afternoon. On Sunday, with the aid of a block and tackle, tiie vessel was hauled up onto the bank and a temporary patch affixed. Owing to a delay in opening the bridge the Northern Steamship Co’s, steamer Waipu was compelled to stop and wait. Owing to the strong current in the river and the easterly gale it was only after very skilful manoeuvring that the bridge was negotiated. Not having sufficient steerage way on, it was not until the vessel was approaching the wharf that she could be brought away from the western bank of the river. SUNDAY SCHOOL. On Saturday afternoon the Methodist Sunday School held their annual prize distribution. Considering the state of the weather there was a fair attendance of scholars and a few friends.
